UT Review: Coret Classic

Filed in: Unreal Tournament.

Level: Coret Classic
Type: Capture the Flag
File Size: 12.4 MB
Rating: 9/10

Description: Hi-tech base.

I'm a sucker for conversions of levels from older games, especially levels from the original Unreal Tournament (it was a pleasant surprise when one of the levels in the second Community Bonus Pack turned out to be a conversion of an original level), and this one is a particularly good one. The author has successfully kept the flow of the original while updating the look to UT2004. Anyone fancy converting a Doom level?

Assuming you haven't played the original, there's a change the author has made which differs from usual UT2004 play - the small shield packs in the central area give 25 shield points while the larger ones further back in the bases give 50.

The central area is an irregularly-shaped pillar-laden room with an upper floor containing a double-damage power up. From the lower part there are two entrances to each base, with a third entrance from the top floor. These converge partway in to split to a main hall and an over-passage, both of which lead to the flag room. The flag rooms have two handy ledges for ambushing people who use the lower entrance.

Though hiking from one flag room to the other takes a while, there's plenty to look at on the way, so long as you avoid the enemy, of course.
