Alden Bates' WeblogFeigning normality since 1973Yet another event to base a scam onFiled in: Spam.
Snip the usual spiel about helping her transfer $6 million out of the country. You'll notice from these two news reports that the authorities are already investigating the whole issue, so actually getting involved at this point would be very silly. Also, although the initial email came from mrs.suha101@yahoo.co.uk, the email later says to reply via mrssuha1@pc.nu. At the very bottom there's a sig that start out "Mrs Suha Arafat has sent you a link to a page on TellingIt.com, the site about nonfiction narrative." and contains a link to a page on that site, indicating whoever send this used the "email this review" feature they have there. Site owners, please make sure that if you have a feature which allows people to send emails, that it can't be misused! Posted November 19, 2006 9:37 PM CommentsYeah, the $6 million figure was listed in the bit of the email I snipped. :) Posted by: Alden Bates | November 20, 2006 3:45 PM So there's 6.5 billion, and she's only getting out 6 million? Bah! So, what, my cut would be a fraction of 1%? Sod that... Posted by: Thad | November 21, 2006 6:31 AM Post a comment | |
I quite like the "allegedly discovered" phrase. "Hey, we wanted to ship out 6.5 billion, but, gosh-darn-it, wouldn't you know it was only 65 cents instead..."
(And it is billion in the post, not million as you put it...)
