Newsflash: SORBS still sucks!

Filed in: Spam.

Some 95% of my email comes from a good friend of mine. Unfortunately, cowboy spam fighters SORBS (who still suck badly) keep banning the SMTP servers of the ISP he uses, Clear.

They're not banning him personally, but because someone on Clear sent spam, he now can't email me, because my web host uses SORBS to filter its incoming email. This is the third time in recent months, and I'm getting pretty tired of it, but since Clear apparently can't stop spammers using their SMTP servers...

Well, I'm off to ask my web host to whitelist his address so I can get his emails again

Edit: my webhost have now whitelisted it! I love my web host. :)

So SORBS sucks because Clear is sending spam and SORBS lists them for sending spam.... right....

True, there's really three organisations to blame here:

a) Clear, for letting spammers sign up and send spam through their servers,
b) SORBS, for blacklisting an entire SMTP server, despite the fact that this includes a large amount of legitimate correspondence, and
c) my host, for using SORBS, despite its obvious problems, to filter email.

Not much I can do about any of them besides complain, of course.

SORBS should not be used by any reputable hosting company or ISP. They overblock badly. For more info read here:

I never heard of SORBS until today. I think they added 1 too many letter, it should be SOB'S. I just got blacklisted and I'm just an innocent individual. I'm unemployed and now I can't send emails to employers. How can they do this? Someone from the government needs to step in and shut them down.
